Medium: Ceramic (clay)
Artwork and Concept description:
Heavy first came about with the question of how can a hollow container look heavy. When you look at a hollow container you would assume that it would be lightweight because it is empty inside right? However, i wanted to find out when can we assume that an empty container can also be considered heavy. So i looked at contrasting colours: lighter colour vs darker colour. As you take a look at my work, you can see that the colour of the interior is in contrast to the exterior of the mug. A darker green inside and a lighter green on the outside. The other reason why the exterior is in contrast to the interior is because i want to emphasise on the fact that these are all still hollow containers but dark green on the inside created this sense of depth and weight. Then when you look on the exterior of the mugs they are all different. There are like some patterns of patches of dark green that depletes as you look at it in a clockwise direction. And in addition to the idea of contrast, i looked at light and shadows. This is seen at the exterior of the mugs where the texture creates shadows to make the light colour heavier. Another thing that you would notice is the way i placed my works. To make all three of them to feel the same way heaviness all together, i have made it so that the lightest supports the others to balance out each of their heaviness and make them equal to each other.
